What is Salvation?

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.

Ephesians 2:8-9

When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved? Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Matthew 19:25-26

You may have heard this word a lot; preached on the streets or written on signs. But what is salvation? How can we receive it? How do we know we have it? Read below to learn more about salvation and the saving work of Jesus Christ

The Sin Problem

All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.

Ephesians 2:3

The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21

Violating God's Law

Sin is the breaking of God's holy commands for rightous living, and get this, everyone has sinned. Everyone has lied, stolen, cheated, etc. We all have fallen short of God's glory and because God is good and just, he must not allow the evil deeds we commit to go unpunished. This "punishment" is called damnation.Although we may think our sins are small, they are indeed a major violation of God's law.

What About Me?

As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one."

Romans 3:10-12

But I'm a Good Person!

The truth is, no one is good. No one is rightous. No one can make it to heaven by their own morals and works. Though many try, no one will ever "earn" a place in heaven.  Only by confessing your sins and making a plea to the Almighty God can  you be saved.

What Now?

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

John 3:16-17

We can be Saved

Because of our shortcomings, God sent his son Jesus Christ to save us from our sins and the punishments it comes with. Christ took the punishment for us by coming to earth as a man, and giving up His life on the cross. Through His death, we have life. Salvation is therefore the process of being saved from damnation through this sacrifice. It is the acceptance of the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal saviour so that you can be rescued from the punishment of sin that we rightly deserve. Instead of eternal seperation from God, you can instead spend your eternal life in heaven with God. Doesn't this sound amazing? You can trade in your old sinful life for a new one in which you are completely accepted and loved by God. Only through accepting Christ can you hope to enter into the kingdom of Heaven.

What Do I do?

"If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved."

Romans 10:9-10

Confession of Repentance

The beginning of your new life starts with a simple confession: "Jesus, you are Lord". Although it sounds simple, these are not just words. It's a declaration of faith in which you acknowledge the sins of your past and profess  your need for a saviour. You confess that you cannot enter into the kingdom of God by your own works, and therefore accept Christ's sacrifice as your own. As a result, Christ opens the door for you to enter the Kingdom of God with open arms. He begins to transform you into a new person, with new desires and a clean heart. Your past is washed away, and your new life starts now. To Receive this wonderful salvation, recite the prayer below:

The Sinner's Prayer

Dear God in heaven, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I acknowledge to You that I am a sinner, and I am sorry for my sins and the life that I have lived; I need your forgiveness.

I believe that you died on the cross for me, to save me. You did what I could not do for myself. I come to you now and ask you to take control of my life; I give it to you. From this day forward,

You said in the bible that if we confess the Lord our God and believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead, we shall be saved.

Right now I confess Jesus as my Lord. With my heart, I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead.  From this day forward, help me to live every day for you and in a way that pleases you.

This very moment I accept Jesus Christ as my own personal Savior and according to His Word, I am saved. I love you, Lord, and I thank you that I will spend all eternity with you.

Amen.
